Oasis has a great team of people who are passionately and creatively involved. Oasis is managed by a Board of Trustees largely comprised of local people who are leaders in their own right in the community. The resident Board meet regularly with the staff to ensure the smooth running of the daily operation of the Centre. The Board are also involved pastorally for the staff members and visit Oasis families in need in the community.
Phil & Judy
We, the directors, lived for three years with our four children in Agdao, Davao City in 1997. We believed that God had called us to serve the poor and were sent out by our church in New Zealand. In making contact with the local community we learnt of the need to support families with their children's education and medical costs. After helping a family one day with medical aid and food, we realized our help was just like a drop in the ocean, as the needs were overwhelming, and that night, while we were praying about what to do, God gave us the vision of being an Oasis to the people. He gave us ideas of how we could help. And so Oasis Family Ministries was birthed from a vision into a reality. We held on as the rollercoaster ride began! God opened doors everywhere, and before we knew it we were managing a child sponsorship programme, parenting skills seminars, Bible studies for parents, and a weekly programme for children.
Oasis began in May 1998 when we first sponsored 23 children, which quickly grew to 47, then 72, and by the end of that year we had 97 children sponsored.
In 2005, God gave us the vision to build the Oasis Centre and all the funds for it were donated by generous supporters. So we went back and lived there for a year and managed the building project.
We have trained national personnel to manage the day to day running of the project and we voluntarily manage all the finances and sponsor communication from our home in New Zealand. We are in weekly contact with the staff and Board and we return each year to attend the Board's AGM, oversee the project, speak to various groups and interview new families eligible for sponsorship.
