Oasis Family Center
In 2005 we built a centre for the needs of our ministry. The two apartments upstairs generate income which offsets our administration costs. There are two lecture rooms available including a library corner and a computer bay, and an office. Our tutoring classes and other activities for children, youth and parents are held here.
There are about 75 kids who join our Saturday meetings. Held in two locations, in the Oasis Center and the other one in the house of Vergie, a volunteer from the community who passionately invests her time for the kids. It is time where they can learn biblical principles through stories, as well as practical living.
Every Sunday afternoon at the Oasis Center is a time for parents to fellowship together, find encouragement, learn biblical truths and principles for living. There are workshops for Parenting Skills and Marriage Enrichment during the year.
Handled by Roger Rota also known as “RR”. RR gives his time every Tuesday to meet the music team for rehearsal, Also every Wednesday he teaches new or beginner level youth who also want to learn how to play guitar. Oasis is pleased to have him around and the young people are enjoying him immensely.
The youths who join are really motivated. They compete a few times in a year and are aiming to ascend through the ranks and different belts. Jason, one of the former students, is now the assistant coach and investing in the lives of new karate students. He dreams to excel in this sport and one day become a black belt and a coach.
Sunday afternoons are for the youths… A time of fellowship, Word of God, games, worship, activities and more. They come together to get to know God more, be equipped for practical living and build solid friendships that encourages them in their daily lives. It is an opportunity where the can be themselves, overcome shyness, have fun, learn from others and grow spiritually. The youth fellowship is led by the college youth of Oasis who are being trained in leadership.
Other highlights of the youth fellowship include:
Inter Youth Fellowship every month with other youth groups.
Youth Camp once a year in summer. An intense time of bonding and getting to know God more.
Outreach and Community Service twice a year to visit those who are more needy and help practically.
Our tutor teacher Elizabeth has after school tutorial classes in English and Mathematics and also takes the opportunity to teach Christian values. She teaches from Grades 1 - 6 during the week days. Every Saturday, Elizabeth is busy with the high school students,
Projects: Extreme House Makeover
We have done Extreme house makeover for Jarizon children in 2009, whose mother sadly passed away, and their father had deserted the family when they were young. Their house has always been a poor shelter with no running water or electricity. The cooking area is over the local polluted stormwater drain, and the roof leaked when it rained. We thank God for the generosity of Archer Memorial Trust who gave a donation to give these young people (6 in the family and already expanding!) a complete house makeover with their own water, toilet and electricity. For the first time in their lives they have a decent solid home with basic amenities, that we all take for granted. They all helped with the building construction and now value it as their own and are very proud of it. Lou Velasco, is closely working with these young people and giving them some hope and direction for their lives. The boys and the older daugther weren’t ever interested in an education, and one of the younger girls is now pregnant. The two younger girls, Maricel and Angelyn are sponsored through Oasis Sponsorship Programme. What one of the children had to say: “We are very grateful for your kindness and for your heart to help my family. Thank you so much that you sent us money for us to build our new home. We now have electricity and water supply. We are glad that you have the heart to help us and other people. I know God can provide anything we need, we just have to ask Him.”
