Davao City
|
Davao City has a population of over one million people. Statistics indicate that up to 70 percent of employable people are 'underemployed'. Unfortunately, the government doesn't have support mechanisms or the financial capability to help. Many of these families are living in slums as squatters on land they don't own. Pollution, overcrowding, shocking living conditions, crime, teenage pregnancy, drug taking, are just some of the symptoms of this situation.
There are some very beautiful and affordable tourist spots close to the city and there is some degree of Westernization. There is plenty of public transport and the local people are known for being hospitable. The population is mostly Catholic, and the local language is Cebuano. Click here for more photos |
